 Secateurs
Cut and Hold Secateurs – The action of squeezing the blades together to complete the cut causes a gripping device to lock onto the stem, holding it firmly in place for release into a flower basket, trug or compost heap, without having to ever touch it.
Bypass Secateurs – where the blade ‘bypasses’ the cutting block or anvil. This action produces the cleanest and hence healthiest cut and is recommended for all pruning of live stems up to about 2.5 cm diameter.
Anvil Secateurs– where the blade cuts down onto the cutting block. This method is more powerful but as it causes some crushing of the stem it is not recommended for young live stems. For old / dead wood which tends to harden up and require much more effort to cut, this is the best tool.
